DACA Update & Save Haven Reminder

Celerity wants to remind our families that last week State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson denounced President Trump’s decision to suspend the federal Dream Act and told California public school students and their families that California will keep protecting and supporting them.

In February, Celerity Educational Group’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution that Celerity’s schools are “Safe Havens” for learning and teaching for all students, where:

  • Parents are welcome and encouraged on campus regardless of their immigration status;
  • Students and families can seek support and information if faced with fear and anxiety about immigration enforcement efforts; and
  • Bullying, harassment, and intimidation based on immigration status, religious, or ethnic identification are not tolerated.

Celerity is built on the foundation that our schools are safe and inviting learning environments where students and parents, teachers and staff can thrive regardless of their immigration status, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability, sex and gender identity, socio-economic status or beliefs.

We are aware that recent executive orders on immigration and harsh rhetoric in the news have raised concerns related to immigration enforcement in our communities. Please know we do not ask questions about a student’s immigration status, including that of family members. Celerity’s schools are not an arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

We are proud of how involved Celerity families are in their children’s education. Families are welcome and integral at Celerity. Please reach out to your school Principal if you ever have any questions about this, or if you would like references for information and support about immigration enforcement efforts.
