Rolas Closure Infomation
After many months of discussions and working to grow enrollment at Rolas, the CEG Board of Directors voted Wednesday night to close Rolas as of July 18, 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year.
Many other options were deliberated for hours during Wednesday’s open session. But ultimately, the Board decided that closing Rolas is the only sustainable fiscal corrective action for the school and CEG as a whole. Without the necessary increase in enrollment, there was no other viable path to keep the school open without negatively impacting our other schools and students.
Please know we are extremely proud of our Rolas students and staff members. This year, Rolas was an academic success and one of our highest performing schools. We know how disappointing this news is for you, as it is for all of us. Your child’s education is of the upmost importance to us and we want you and your student to continue to be a part of our family.
We are working hard to make a place for Rolas families and staff at our other Celerity schools. Below, you will find a map of all our campuses and contact information.
- To help you enroll at another Celerity school, there will be additional staff members available from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday, and 8am-2pm this Saturday at the Rolas North Main Office (1495 Colorado Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90041). All other Celerity campuses will have staff members available from 9-3 Monday-Friday and are available by phone to help at the number below.
- Celerity Octavia’s campuses are in close proximity to Celerity Rolas and there is space available in all grade levels. We encourage you to enroll at Octavia or any of our other Celerity schools if you would like to keep your child in a CEG school. We are also working together with LAUSD to try to create additional space at our CEG schools and will continue to keep you informed of any updates on our progress. And of course, you also have the option to enroll your child in a school within your district of residence.
- Soon, you will also be receiving a packet of information that will include your child’s records should you choose to enroll your child in another school. Student records and transcripts are currently located at the Rolas North Main Office (1495 Colorado Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90041) for you to obtain copies.
The decision to close Rolas was extremely difficult as you can imagine, and ultimately came down to the declining enrollment in the Highland Park and Eagle Rock neighborhood overall. CEG’s Board has closely monitored Rolas over the past year and has received regular financial updates. Our team, together with our families, have worked hard for almost two years to recruit, enroll, and retain students. We brought on a new Principal who is very involved in the community, we developed a comprehensive outreach strategy to target families within a five-mile radius of the school, hosted phone banking sessions, shared our story with families, motivated existing parents to recruit within their social circles, carried out a massive direct mail campaign, and spent weekends canvassing neighborhoods and community gathering areas spreading the word about our program.
Unfortunately, Highland Park and Eagle Rock are transforming and have declining populations of school-age children. Despite all of our efforts, the Board and our team could not ignore that Rolas was not securing the enrollment needed to make the school fiscally healthy, and there was no one-campus option that would lower costs enough to close the financial gap.
Closing a school is always a disappointment for our entire community, but keeping the school without the enrollment necessary for a balanced budget would threaten the overall health of our other schools impacting students, parents, and employees.
We are all sad that Rolas is closing, but we are optimistic that you will continue to be a part of our family. The same outstanding educational program you valued at Rolas is available for your child at one of our campuses close by.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Our primary focus is, and always will be, the education of your child. If you have any questions or concerns, Principal Alberto Ramirez will be available to help you navigate this process. Mr. Ramirez can be contacted by phone (323) 533-4352 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org. Should you want to speak with someone in person, there will be additional staff available at the Rolas North Main Office (1495 Colorado Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90041), to provide support for your family and child.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”orange”][vc_single_image image=”861″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
